The release of molten metal into cold water is a ritual performed in cultures all over the world. The purposes of these acts range from exorcism and prognostication to diagnosis of recurring nightmares. In an outdoor public performance on July 22nd 2002, Elizabeth poured sixty-five portions of molten pewter into holy water; one for each child born in the City of Philadelphia on September 11th 2001.

Forty-five similar portions were poured into the Atlantic Ocean in a ritual of purification and remembrance of those passengers who died in the airplane crash in Western Pennsylvania on September 11th, 2001.

Each portion weighed exactly 4.5 ounces. The variety of forms which the pewter droplets took, in their immersion, reflect the range of individuals that occur, given the same basic substance at birth.

The droplets were suspended individually over the baptismal font at the newly renovated Philadelphia Cathedral: a commissioned memorial to the events of September 11th, 2001. It is a recognition of the ways in which Pennsylvanians, in particular, experienced the events of 9/11.

By chance, the total number of droplets - sixty five live births, and forty-five deaths - combined to one hundred and ten: the number of floors in each of the Trade Centers.
